چکیده

This paper investigates contact stress analysis in cycloidal gear teeth, emphasizing its significance for ensuring reliable and durable cycloidal gear systems. The unique characteristics of cycloid curves, including their mathematical descriptions and generation methods, are reviewed. The concept of stress analysis in gear design is explored, highlighting the role of Hertzian contact stress theory and its limitations due to real-world complexities. A detailed comparison between cylindrical and spherical Hertz contact in cycloidal gears is presented, explaining the advantages and disadvantages of each approach in terms of stress distribution and design complexity. Abaqus finite element analysis (FEA) software is employed to model and analyze Hertz stress in cycloidal gears. The methodology is demonstrated using a specific gear design, investigating the influence of various parameters on the stress distribution. The analysis reveals that increasing the number of teeth on the driven gear and using a larger module reduce peak Hertz stress. As expected, increasing the applied load leads to a proportional increase in peak stress. The study also highlights the sensitivity of stress distribution to minor misalignments. Finally, the paper acknowledges that Hertzian contact stress equations provide a starting point, but more advanced methods like FEA might be necessary for a more accurate representation of stress in complex geometries. The findings from this analysis can be utilized to develop advanced design techniques, material selection criteria, and maintenance strategies to mitigate the impact of high contact stresses and optimize the performance of cycloidal gear systems.
