چکیده

Introduction: Plantago major, commonly known as common plantain, is a species of flowering plants. It has been used for wound healing from ancient times and its potential wound-healing properties has been a subject of interest. This systematic review aims to evaluate the existing literature to assess the impact of Plantago major on wound healing. Methods: A comprehensive systematic search was done in electronic databases, including PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, using relevant keywords. Studies until ۲۰۲۳ were included. The screening process involved specific criteria, and data were extracted and analyzed. Results: A number of studies met the inclusion criteria. After evaluating the articles, the results showed that Plantago major has positive effects on wound healing. The included studies reported beneficial effects, such as reduced inflammation, enhanced collagen deposition, accelerated wound closure and reductions in wound size in various types of wounds. Conclusion: The available evidence suggests that Plantago major may hold promise as a natural agent for wound healing. Its effects are attributed to its anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and tissue-regenerating properties. Nevertheless, further rigorous clinical trials with larger sample sizes and standardized formulations are warranted to establish its efficacy and safety in the context of human wound management. Plantago major represents a potential avenue for complementary and alternative approaches to wound care
