Energy Consumption and Educational Building Forms in Hot and Humid Climates: A Case Study in Bandar Abbas

Optimizing energy use is a crucial and influential topic in the contemporary world. Iran has considerable potential and capacity in the field of renewable energy sources due to its abundance of fossil fuels. On the other hand, the primary goal of a country's educational system is to provide opportunities to foster the development and achievement of intellectual capital in an information- and knowledge-based society. However, the main issue in educational buildings is the insufficient implementation of measures for reducing energy consumption and enhancing user comfort. These objectives can be accomplished by adopting strategies that consider the climatic conditions and characteristics in the designing process and selecting the optimal building form and configuration. To this end, the current study aims to examine the correlation between reducing energy consumption and the form of educational buildings in the hot and humid climate of Bandar Abbas City. The simulation method, using Design builder software, was employed to explore the optimal form of educational buildings in the hot and humid climate. Using Design-builder software, ۱۱ common models of educational buildings with identical infrastructure and conditions, such as wall, roof, and glass types, were simulated and compared in the climate of Bandar Abbas city. The results suggested that the cylindrical form was the most energy-efficient form for educational buildings in Bandar Abbas. However, the results also recommended that the final form should be derived from the best forms or their integration.
