The Effect of Swimming Training with Cinnamon Extract on Hematological Factors in Diabetic Rats

Objective: Diabetes is one of the most common metabolic diseases which can lead to cardiovascular disorders. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of swimming training with cinnamon extract on hematological factors in diabetic rats. Materials and Methods: ۶۰ diabetic rats selected and divided into six group of: (۱) control, (۲) swimming training, (۳) ۶۰mg / kg of cinnamon, (۴) ۴۰ mg / kg of cinnamon, (۵) swimming training with ۶۰mg / kg cinnamon and (۶) swimming training with ۴۰ mg / kg cinnamon. Groups ۲, ۵ and ۶ (five sessions per week for eight weeks) swam for ۱۰ minutes and ۳۰ minutes in the first two weeks and in the remaining six weeks respectively. Groups ۳, ۴, ۵ and ۶ received the prescribed amount of cinnamon extract daily. For statistical analysis of data used one way analysis variance and Tukey post hoc test (P≤ ۰.۰۵). Results: Swimming training, ۴۰ and ۶۰ mg/kg cinnamon extract, swimming training with ۴۰ and ۶۰ mg/kg cinnamon extract have significant effect on reduction of HbA۱c (P-value:۰.۰۰۱) and have no significant effect on WBC (P-value:۰.۲۸), RBC (P-value:۰.۶۶) and platelets (P-value:۰.۰۷) in diabetic rats and ۶۰ mg/kg cinnamon extract is more effective than ۴۰ mg/kg cinnamon extract (P-value:۰.۰۰۱) and swimming training (P-value:۰.۰۰۷) in reduction of  HbA۱c in diabetic rats. Conclusion: Swimming training and cinnamon extract can improve HbA۱c in diabetic rats.
