Effect of different eggplant cultivars on duration of different life stages of Tetranychus urticae (Acari: Tetranychidae) under laboratory conditions

چکیده مقاله:
The two spotted spider mite (TSSM), Tetranychus urticae Koch, is a polyphagous pest that feeds onwide range of host plants such as eggplant. In this research, duration of different life stages of this pestwas studied on seven eggplant cultivars (Isfahan, Dezful, Shend-Abad, Neishabour, Bandar-Abbas,Jahrom and Borazjan) in laboratory conditions at 26±1°C, 60±5% RH and photoperiod of 16:8 (L:D) h.Based on the obtained results, the longest development time was obtained on Bandar-Abbas (11.17and11.00 days for females and males, respectively) and the shortest time period was recorded on Isfahan(9.82 and 9.09 days for females and males, respectively). Moreover, the longevity of adult females rearedon the above-mentioned cultivars varied from 6.93 days on Bandar-Abbas to 9.10 days on Isfahan.Duration of oviposition period on these eggplant cultivars was significantly different and the recordedvalues on the tested cultivars were 5.89, 4.56, 3.46, 3.47, 3.33, 4.29 and 4.80 days, respectively.Furthermore, different cultivars had an obvious effect on the oviposition of TSSM and recorded valuesfor mean eggs per day on these cultivars were 4.78, 2.79, 1.92, 1.22, 1.59, 1.75 and 1.76 eggs,respectively. However, our results revealed that biological parameters of T. urticae on different eggplantcultivars had significant difference. The results obtained in the present study can be used in integratedmanagement programs of this mite in eggplant fields
