چکیده مقاله:

Compression behavior of two-directional and threedirectionalE-glass fiber/Epoxy composites hybridizedby hollow polyester filaments were investigated, separately. Different amounts of hollow polyesterfilaments (۰, ۰.۲۳, ۱.۱۸ and ۲ wt.%) were placed betweensix layers of two-directional and four layers of threedirectionalE-glass fibers. The length of the hollowpolyester filaments was based on E-glass fiber length.Composite specimens were prepared according toVARTM (Vacuum Resin Transfer Molding) method. After completing the curing procedure, specificcompressive strength and specific compressive modulusof the composite samples were investigated. Resultsshowed that in two-directional E-glass/Epoxycomposites, using ۲ wt.% of hollow fibers resulted in thehighest specific compression strength. However, inthree-directional E-glass/Epoxy composites, the highestvalue belonged to the sample containing ۰.۲۳ wt.% ofhollow fibers. It was also observed that hollow polyesterfibers play a significant role in engineering thefiber/matrix interface in both two-directional and threedirectionalE-glass/epoxy composites. Moreover, higherenergy absorption due to the time consuming crackpropagation of hollow polyester fibers was anotherdominant failure mechanisms in E-glass/Epoxycomposite structures.
