Effects of Onosma dichroanthum Boiss. root extract on AGShuman gastric cancer cell-line

چکیده
Gastric cancer is one of the most cancer-related death causes in Golestan province, Iran. In traditionalapproaches, Onosma dichroanthum Boiss. roots have been used as an antiseptic and antiinflammatoryfor wound healing treatment within long times. The aim of this study was to assess thein vitro cytotoxic and anticancer effects of O. dichroanthum Boiss. roots from the Golestan provinceof Iran. After taxonomical identification of O. dichroanthum Boiss., different concentrations of thehydroalcoholic root extract were used. Three different time periods (۲۴, ۴۸, and ۷۲ h) were used totreat AGS gastric cancer and L-۹۲۹ normal fibroblasts cell lines. The evaluation of differentconcentrations of root extract was performed by ۳-(۴,۵-dimethylthiazol-۲-yl)-۲,۵-diphenyltetrazolium bromide (MTT) assay. The ۴۸ h treatment affected cell survival, while theconcentration of ۶۴ μg/mL was determined as IC۵۰ concentrations at ۴۸ h incubation time. The ۴۸h incubation time with ۶۴ μg/mL showed the best effectiveness on cancerous cell-line while beingsafe for normal cell-line. Our results show that O. dichroanthum Boiss. roots extract may havecytotoxic and safe effects on gastric cancer cell-line and normal cells in ۴۸ h treatment periods,respectively. The results indicated the O. dichroanthum Boiss. may be as an effective anticanceragent in gastric cancer cases.کلیدواژه ها
