Causes of ectopic pregnancy: A review

Introduction & Objective: Ectopic pregnancy is one of the common disorders that one percent of mothers face and it can happen in any age group. Basically, ectopic pregnancy occurs when the fertilized egg is placed in a place other than the endometrium or the same layer inside the uterus, which is the natural place of replacement. Therefore, this study is designed with the aim of knowing the causes of ectopic pregnancy. Methods: The present study was a brief review study designed in ۲۰۲۲. The search was conducted in international and national databases, including PubMed and Scopus. Articles that reported on cancer statistics around the world were reviewed. Summaries of articles published in congresses and conferences were excluded from the study. Initially, ۱۱ articles in English were finally evaluated. Result: By examining various studies, it was shown that the most common causes of ectopic pregnancy are uterine tube infections, which reduce the movement of the cilia of the uterine mucosa or adhesions around the uterine tube. Other effective factors include cesarean section, use of progesterone-type birth control pills, use of IUD, smoking, and some uterine tumors. It is worth mentioning that some articles have mentioned the role of this complication in black people, which is more than white people. Conclusion: By examining various results, it was found that the most important causes of ectopic pregnancy are fallopian tube infections, which can be diagnosed in time and prevent irreparable damage in mothers by conducting periodic tests and educating mothers.
