Safety Management Analysis in Iran’s Construction Industry and Determination of the Country’s Position Compared with Global Statistics

Every year, many people lose their lives from work-related accidents in the construction industry. Many others incur serious injury leading to disability and impairment. Researchers around the world have started to pay particular attention to safety issues in order to prevent such accidents. This paper provides a comprehensive overview of safety management in Iran’s construction industry compared to global benchmarks. Firstly, studies in the field of safety management in the construction industry were examined and classified. Classification included: ۱- Title of publication; ۲- Year of each publication; ۳- Title of journal, conference, congress, and seminar; ۴- Region and country in which the study was done; ۵- Organizational level; ۶- Phase of the project; ۷- Type of the project; ۸- Use of innovative technology and ۹- Research topic. The next step was to determine Iran's position on this issue through discussion and comparison of results. Safety research topics can be divided into three categories based on the concluded study: The first group considered safety issues from the perspective of safety management. The second group targeted individual and group characteristics of the staff involved. The third group analyzed data relating to accidents. The most important difference between the country and studies globally was a lack of research in the third subject’s category (accident data) in Iran.
