چکیده مقاله:

Psychomotor performance plays an important role in competitive sports and dailyactivities. This study set out to investigate the effect of personality dimensions(introversion, extraversion) on psychomotor performance in elite athletes, non-eliteathletes, and non-athletes. One hundred and fifteen male university students (۲۵ eliteathletes, ۴۵ non-elite athletes and ۴۵ non-athletes) participated voluntarily. Subjects’personality dimensions were investigated using Persian version of Eysenck personalityquestionnaire that is valid and reliable. Moreover, to determine psychomotorperformance, reaction time (RT), bimanual coordination and speed anticipation wereexamined. The results of MANOVA showed that level of skill has significant effect on RT(p=۰.۰۰۱) and speed anticipation (۰.۰۰۳), whereas no significant effect on bimanualcoordination (p=۰.۰۸) was found. Furthermore, personality (p=۰.۱۸) and the integrationbetween personality and level of skill (p=۱.۰۰) revealed no significant effect onpsychomotor performance. Higher level of athletic skill can contribute to a betterperformance of psychomotor skills and this finding is supportive of Ackerman theory.
