The response of circulating omentin-۱ concentration, insulin resistance andlipid profile to exercise training in male smokers

چکیده
Background: Omentin-۱ is a circulating adipokine that can serve as a biomarker for assessment ofmetabolic risk factors. We investigated the effect of eight weeks of aerobic exercise training onserum omentin-۱, insulin resistance and lipid profile in non-smokers and smokers.Methods: Nineteen male non-smokers (aged ۲۷.۸۸±۲.۴۷ years, and with BMI of ۲۲.۶۹±۱.۷۷kg.m-۲) and twenty male smokers (aged ۳۰.۱۱±۱.۹۶ years, and with BMI of ۲۳.۱۲±۱.۹۱ kg.m-۲)were randomly assigned into non-smokers control group (C), non-smokers exercise group (E),control smoker group (CS), and exercise smoker group (ES). Exercise groups participated in aneight-week aerobic exercise training program (three times a week, ۲۰-۳۵ min per session at ۵۵%-۷۰% of maximum heart rate). Serum omentin-۱ and insulin values were determined by ELISA.The Homeostatic Model Assessment for Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR), glucose level and lipidprofile were measured before and after the intervention. Pearson correlation test, Eta test, pairedsamples t-test, one and two-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc Tukey test wereapplied for data analysis (p< ۰.۰۵).Results: Aerobic exercise improved both serum omentin-۱ and high lipoprotein cholesterol (HDLC)in the exercise groups (P< ۰.۰۵). Also, exercise training reduced insulin, glucose, HOMA-IR,triglyceride (TG), total cholesterol (TC) and low-density lipoprotein cholesterol (LDL-C) levels(p< ۰.۰۵). Omentin-۱ was significantly correlated with glucose, insulin, HOMA-IR, TG, TC, LDLCand HDL-C in both non-smokers and smokers.Conclusion: The findings suggest that aerobic exercise-induced changes in omentin-۱ in theexercise-trained groups may be associated with the beneficial effects of exercise on reducedinsulin resistance and lipid profile.کلیدواژه ها
