Background: The present study aimed to investigate the effect of a motivational interview ontemptation to consume tobacco, tobacco-related beliefs and aggressiveness in tobacco smokersvisiting the health centers of Bandar Abbas in the south of Iran.Methods: The present quasi-experimental research had a pretest and posttest design and involveda control group. The research population was tobacco and drugs consumers visiting the healthcenters of Bandar Abbas city. The sample consisted of ۴۰ subjects selected through a conveniencesampling method. Twenty subjects were assigned to the experimental group and ۲۰ to the control.To collect the required data, the resilience questionnaire was used in two phases, a pre-test and apost-test. In order to analyze the data, univariate covariance test and the two-sample t-test were runin SPSS ۲۳. To collect the required data, Beck temptation questionnaire (CBQ), Drug BeliefQuestionnaire (DBQ) and Barrett's Impulsivity Questionnaire were used in two phases, a pre-testand a post-test. The statistical analyses included Kolmogorov-Smirnov’s test and multivariate andunivariate covariance analysis, all conducted in SPSS ۲۳.Results: The results of covariance analysis showed the motivational interview is significantlyeffective in smoking temptation, smoking-related beliefs and impulsivity in the researchpopulation (P<۰.۰۱).Conclusion: The important factors that tempt individuals to consume tobacco products includetemptation, false beliefs and impulsivity. They are deceived by the he relaxing nature of cigarettesand other tobacco products. The find tobacco abuse as a way to forget and escape from problemsin real life and feel great. In the motivational interview, the educational intervention makes itpossible to replace a positive attitude to and temptation for tobacco consumption with adowngrading outlook. The motivational interview which is of an educational nature is psychologically and physically effective It has a relatively positive clinical effect tobaccoconsumers.
