Background: The present study was conducted with the aim of investigating the prevalence ofTobacco smoking and its association with developing severe COVID-۱۹ among patientshospitalized with in Bandar Abbas Shahid Mohammadi Hospital in ۲۰۱۹.Methods: The current research is a descriptive-analytical and retrospective study that wasconducted on the files of all patients admitted to the COVID-۱۹ ward of Shahid MohammadiBandar Abbas Hospital from the beginning of ۲۰۱۹ to the end of October ۲۰۱۹. Finally, ۱۰۰ caseswere examined according to the conditions of entry and exit from the study. The required datawere extracted from the cases by the checklist made by the researcher. Chi-square test (Fisher"sexact test) and Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests were used for data analysis.Results: The prevalence of smoking among participants was ۱۴%. Our study finally showed thatthe duration of hospitalization in the ward (p=۳.۰), mortality rate (p=۰.۲), the prevalence of theunderlying disease (p=۰.۰۶), hospitalization in the intensive care unit (p=۰.۶) and also the use ofmechanical ventilation (p=۰.۲) in people with COVID ۱۹ with smoking disorder was notsignificantly different from people without smoking disorder.Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that active smoking does not appear to besignificantly associated with an increased risk of progression to severe disease in COVID-۱۹.
