Background: Patient care staff play an important role in controlling the Covid-۱۹ epidemic. Burnout is a syndromethat harms the mental health of staff and also reduces the quality of care provided to patients. Therefore, this studywas conducted to determine the rate of burnout in front line health care personnel of COVID-۱۹ and compare it withother departments in the teaching hospitals of Semnan University of Medical Sciences in ۲۰۲۰.Methods: The present study was a descriptive analytical study conducted in ۲۰۲۰ in the teaching hospitals of SemnanUniversity of Medical Sciences. A total of ۴۱ front line health care personnel of COVID-۱۹ and ۴۱ other personnelfrom other departments were included in the study using a convenience sampling method. Their demographicinformation was assessed using a demographic information questionnaire, and burnout was assessed using a Persianversion of the Maslach burnout inventory. After collecting data, they were analyzed using SPSS-۱۶ software. Results: Among the participants, ۶۱ were women and ۵۶ of them were married. The majority of participants had nochildren. The education level of the majority of participants was a bachelor's degree. Twenty participants workedmorning shifts, and ۶۲ worked in rotations. Most people had less than ۱۰ years of work experience. Emotionalexhaustion was significantly lower in the front line health care personnel of COVID-۱۹ than in other departments (P< ۰.۰۵). There was no statistically significant relationship between contextual variables (age, sex, marital status, number of children, level of education, work experience, shift work, and overtime) with the three dimensions ofburnout in the two groups (P > ۰.۰۵).Conclusion: The burnout score of caregivers in outpatient departments is higher in all dimensions of burnout thanfront line health care personnel of COVID-۱۹, and this difference is significant in the case of emotional exhaustion. Therefore, interventions to control and reduce burnout are recommended for all patient care personnel during theepidemic.
