The effect of TiC and TiB۲ reinforcements used in the Ti-۱۰ Mo substrate on nucleation and bio-mineralization ability of thecalcium phosphate coating

In the current research, Ti-۱۰Mo-X (TiC&TiB۲) porous composites prepared by spark plasmasintering method, that have different ceramic reinforcement values of ۰.۵ and ۲.۰, were usedas substrate. The effect of reinforcements on the nucleation of the calcium phosphate duringthe electrodeposition at a DC current density of ۰.۷ mA.cm-۲ was studied. Optical electronmicroscope (OM) was used to evaluate the porosity distribution in the substrate. ScanningElectron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Energy Distribution Spectroscopy (EDS), X-RayDiffraction (XRD) were used to investigate the morphology, chemical and phase compositionin the applied coating, respectively. Substrate surface topography (Ra) and wettability valueswere also measured by roughness and static drop wettability tests. AFM analysis was alsoemployed to study the surface roughness of the coating. The results confirmed that the amountof reinforcement influenced the morphology of the CaP coating. Moreover, the XRD patternsconfirmed that the resulting coatings mainly contained the hydroxyapatite (HA) phase. Also,immersion test in the SBF showed appropriate biocompatibility of the coated samples.
