چکیده

Improving material's impact resistance while keeping them lightweight is a significant challenge in scienceand engineering. Meta-structures can provide a strong solution to this problem. The properties of these materialscan be tailored and optimized to fit a purpose by changing their internal structure. Meta-structures are structureswith usual materials but unusual and useful properties resulted from their internal structures rather than theirchemical composition. Meta-structures are commonly known as structures with negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) orauxetic performance. Auxetic structures have high transverse shear modulus and enhanced impact energyabsorption performance. In this study, four different lattice structures, i.e., conventional honeycomb, re-entranthoneycomb, tetra chiral, and anti-tetra chiral structures with the same surface density were designed andfabricated through fused deposition modeling (FDM) ۳D printing. The structures are tested under compressive axialloading to investigate energy absorption. The Poisson’s ratio of the structures is obtained using Digital ImageCorrelation (DIC).
