Introduction: Occupational accidents, injuries and major industrial disasters have long been cause for concern at the workplaces. In this line, occupational ergonomics is a multidisciplinary approach for promoting safety and health through effective work design. In fact, if design is considered as ‘lock’, ergonomics would be its ‘key’. Nowadays, nanotechnology is a well-known term to designers.
Nanotechnology is the understanding, manipulation, and control of matter on a near-atomic scale to produce new structures, materials, and devices with unique new characteristics. Combining "Nanotechnology" and "Ergonomics" has been known as "Nano-ergonomics". It may involve employment of nanomaterials to fit the jobs to human. In fact, nano-ergonomics can help to develop the more comfortable condition in the workplaces. So, the aim of this study is to reveal benefits of nanotechnology for ergonomic design.Method: The search strategy was provided according cochrane guideline with main search terms of “Nanotechnology", "Nanomaterial", and "Nanoparticle" combined with the terms of “Ergonomics” for achieving to articles. Search strategy did not have a time limit and the databases including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Sciences (WOS) and Google Scholar were used to conduct research. Also, Google search engine was used to find nano-ergonomic commercial products and to complete information. All of available papers such as case reports, case series, editorials, reviews and so on and available notes in types of information sources were included in the study. Results: In this review, ۲۶ article were firstly achieved. By considering the limitations and providing overviews of reviews (PRIOR), finally, ۵ studies were regarded as appropriate. The articles were published from ۲۰۱۲-۲۰۲۰. The results showed that nano-ergonomics has developed in various areas. In the field of physical ergonomics, nanotechnology is commonly used to chair design, computer parts manufacturing, food packaging containers, and manufacturing of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hearing, respiratory, heat, cold, and radiation protection devices. In the environmental ergonomics, soundproof panels for perfect sound control, thermal insulators, nanotech LED Lighting, Nanoleaf light panels, photo-catalysts, UV protectors are widely known. Smart glasses are strong light absorber and they were used to prevent of solar radiation from the window into the workstation. So they play a vital role in cognitive aspects of human–computer interactions. In addition, cognitive ergonomics interacts with neuroscience and nano-neuro science uses nanotechnology to probe neural activity at the sub-cellular level. Artificial intelligence is another science that is able to do almost all cognitive tasks performed by human via manufacturing nano-bots and nano-computers.
