چکیده مقاله:
Background: Epilepsy is one of the mos t common neurologicaldiseases during pregnancy. Women with epilepsy are at riskof pregnancy complications, however, the influence of epilepsyon fetal growth is not unders tood. This review has been conductedto assess the adverse fetal growth outcomes in womenwith epilepsy.Materials and Methods: MEDLINE, Cochrane and Googlescholar have been searched between Jan ۱, ۲۰۱۲, and Jan ۱,۲۰۲۲, with imposing English language res trictions, for observationals tudies of pregnant women with epilepsy, which assessedthe risk of epilepsy and pregnancy outcomes includingfetal growth parameters. Results: Es timated risk of fetal growth res triction (FGR) was۱.۲۸-fold higher in epileptic pregnant women than in nonepilepticwomen (P<۰.۰۵) in previous literature, however, theodds of early preterm birth, ges tational diabetes, fetal death ors tillbirth, perinatal death, or admission to neonatal intensivecare unit did not differ between women with epilepsy and thosewithout the disorder. Given the course of previous s tudies resultsshow that FGR rate is significantly increased even if antiepilepticdrug (AED) were taken. Conclusion: Although modes t bias cannot be avoided, our reviewanalysis indicated that epilepsy participates in fetal developmentas an unfavorable factor, and AEDs seemed to be uselessin decreasing the occurrence rate of FGR. This increasedrisk of FGR should be taken into account when counsellingwomen with epilepsy
