Is Vitamin D Related to Hormones of Infertile Menwith Impaired Spermogram? A Cross Sectional S tudy

Background: The prevalence of infertility is increasing worldwide,and vitamin D deficiency can be a major factor. The aimof this s tudy was to inves tigate the Association between serumvitamin D levels and sex hormones in infertile men with impairedspermograms.Materials and Methods: This retrospective cross-sectionals tudy was carried out on ۲۲۰ infertile men who were referringto a selected urology clinic in Tehran. The relation of serumlevels of vitamin D with men sex hormones including FSH, LH,FT and TT was evaluated by appropriate tes ts. P<۰.۰۵ was consideredas significant level.Results: None of hormones did not show significant relationwith serum vitamin D levels. Comparison of hormone levelsof FSH, TT, FT in the two groups of vitamin D did not shows tatis tically significant difference when participants allocated intwo groups based on vitamin D۳ level (<۲۰ ng / ml and ≥ ۲۰ng / ml). While LH hormone levels were s tatis tically significanthigher in men with vitamin D۳ ≥ ۲۰ ng /m than other group (P= ۰.۰۲).Conclusion: Vitamin D in infertile men is not associated withserum FSH, LH, FT and TT, but there is a significant differencein serum LH between men with and without normal serum levelsof vitamin D.
