Background: Coenzyme Q۱۰ (CoQ۱۰) is a mitochondrial electrontransport chain component. It plays an important role in thehuman seminal fluid as an antioxidant, mitochondrial bioenergeticsand metabolic process. S tudies have shown that CoQ۱۰deficiency can lead to sperm damage, lower sperm motility, andsperm count. Therefore, the aim of this s tudy was to evaluationthe effect of coenzyme Q۱۰ on the expression level of spermTFAM gene in patients with idiopathic oligoas thenoteratospermia.Materials and Methods: This s tudy included ۸۸ infertile patientswith idiopathic OAT and ۴۲ healthy men as control groupand underwent semen analysis based on the WHO ۲۰۱۰. Allparticipants received orally CoQ۱۰ ۲۰۰ mg/daily for ۳ months.After this time, sperm parameters and the expression level ofthe sperm TFAM gene were measured using real-time PCR incontrol group and infertile patients.Results: Treatment with CoQ۱۰ significantly improved spermconcentration (P=۰.۰۰۲), progressive motility (P=۰.۰۲), andtotal motility (P=۰.۰۰۶).The expression level of sperm TFAMgene was decreased as compared control patient (P=۰.۰۰۱).Conclusion: Adminis tration of orally ۲۰۰mg/daily CoQ۱۰supplementation for ۳ months could improve sperm parametersand decrease sperm TFAM gene expression in patients with idiopathicOAT
