چکیده

Menstrual blood-derived stem cells (MenSCs) are a novel source of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). MenSCs provide an alternative source for the research and application in medicine. This study aims to identify and summarize the articles related to menstrual blood stem cells, to show the trends of researchers on this topic.Method: The current study implemented bibliometric method using Web of Science database. We used keywords with no time limitation as a strategy to retrieve the required documents. Analysis included the VOSviewer mapping of the retrieved data. Results: A total of ۳۵۶ publications were extracted and “menstrual blood” with total link strength of ۵۴۹ appeared as the most frequent key words, which had a strong link to “bone-marrow”, “stromal cells”, and “differentiation” respectively. Of the retrieved documents, ۲۲% were published in high rank (stem cell research & therapy) journal. The majority (۵۱.۹%) of the retrieved documents were published in the last five years of the study period. The total number of authors who took part in publishing the retrieved documents was ۱۶۷۱. The United States has total citations (۲۷۰۴). Both most articles (۱۱۹, ۲۹%) and total link strength (۱۴۵۹) of China ranked first of all the countries. Both documents, and total link strength of Iran ranked third of all ۴۲ countries. The most research organization on menstrual blood stem cells is Academic Center for Education, Culture and Research. Author keyword analysis and۱۰ most cited articles showed that “menstrual blood”, “endometrium”, and “endometriosis” were the focus of menstrual blood stem cells research. Conclusions: This bibliometric study showed that there is a growing trend both in published articles related to menstrual blood stem cells and relative research interest, especially over the past five years. Despite this, MenSCs research is still in its infancy, lagging in quality and quantity.
