Magical realism is a literary genre that emerged in the ۲۰th century. This literary movement is one of themost unparalleled and disputable movements of the past century. Throughout the years, various writersfrom different parts of the world have introduced this genre to their nations. Gabriel García Márquez andHaruki Murakami, two prominent postmodernist writers, are among them. Gabriel García Márquez is onethe most influential Latin American writers in the genre of magical realism and Haruki Murakami is themost prominent Japanese writer in this genre. This study intends to characterize and compare the magicalrealist elements in One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel García Márquez and Kafka on the Shore byHaruki Murakami.
