چکیده مقاله:

The present work describes the structure and Morphotectonic Analysis of Pir Sohawa, Pharhila, Sangada and Neelan bothu area, located north of Islamabad. The project area is a part of a toposheet ۴۳ G/۱. Latitude ۳۳°۴۷’۱۵” N-۳۳°۵۰’۱۵” N, Longitude ۷۳°۷’۱۵” E-۷۳°۱۱’۳۰” E which lies in Lesser Himalaya. This foreland zone consists of clastic sediments that were produced by the uplift and subsequent erosion of the Himalayas and deposited by rivers. In this area Jurassic to Miocene lithostratigraphic units are exposed that are punctuated by various unconformities. The mapping of project area is covered by rocks of Mesozoic-Cenozoic age, that have undergone severe deformation during Himalayan orogeny demonstrated by the development of mostly southeast verging faults and associated folds. However, in southern portion of the project area, MBT is present that brings the SamanaSuk Formation in direct contact with Lockhart Limestone. In place the structure is very complex as the impact of MBT passing through the south of area, it has many splays that juxtaposed various formation and mostly controlling the structural style. Morphotectonic analysis were combined in order to investigate the relation between the tectonic activity and the geomorphology in the area. GIS techniques were used for mapping the various topographic, geological and tectonic features of the study area. The digital elevation model (DEΜ) of the study area was created with surfer software. The slope angle, hillshade, watershed and aspect maps were derived from DEM.
