چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Antibiotic-resistant Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are azoonotic and food-born pathogen which can spread through fecal contaminated food. The purposeof this study was to investigate the phenotypic resistance to gentamicin in STEC strains isolatedfrom sheep carcasses in KermanMethods : In this study ۳۰ STEC isolates were confirmed by conventional PCR methods. Diskdiffusion technique was used to analyze STEC isolates for resistance against gentamicin. Results : Among the ۳۰ STECs, ۱۶ isolates (۵۳.۳%) were resistant to the gentamicin, whereas ۸isolates (۲۶.۶%) were found to be sensitive, and the remaining ۶ isolates (۲۰.۱%) were in anintermediate stage of resistance. Conclusion : The findings of this study demonstrate a considerable level of antibiotic-resistant inSTEC strains isolated from raw sheep meat. As a result, these strains potentially threatens publichealth in kerman city.
