Background and Aim : Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) are foodborne pathogensthat cause severe diseases, including hemorrhagic diarrhea and hemolytic uremic syndrome inhuman. Ruminants, especially cattle, are asymptomatic primary reservoirs. Antibiotic resistanceamong STECs lead to problems in treatment options. The present study was performed in order todetect the phenotypic resistance to colistin in STECs isolated from sheep carcasses in KermanMethods : In this study ۳۰ STEC isolates were confirmed by conventional PCR methods. Diskdiffusion technique was used to analyze STEC isolates for resistance against colistin. Results : Among the ۳۰ STECs, ۷ isolates (۲۳.۳ %) were resistant to the colistin. Also, ۹ isolates(۳۰ %) was evaluated as sensitive and the remaining isolates (۴۶.۷%) were identified asintermediate. Conclusion : The results of this study showed that raw sheep meat could be considered as apotential reservoir of colistin resistant STECs, which may threaten public health.
