چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Demodex folliculorum and Demodex brevis are two species of tinyparasitic mites that live in the hair follicles and sebaceous glands of human skin, respectively. Bothspecies are found primarily on the eyelashes and eyebrows or near the nose. Demodex infestationis relatively common, and is only rarely associated with disease. Occasionally, mite populationscan expand, resulting in a condition called demodicosis, which causes itching and inflammation. Methods : This study included ۱۰۰ patients (۲۶ male, ۷۴ female; mean age ۶۱_۲۰ years) who wereadmitted to the Dermatology Clinic and were treated with immunosuppressive therapies foritching. The control group consisted of ۱۰۰ healthy subjects (۳۴ male, ۶۶ female; mean age ۷۱_۱۵ years). Direct microscopic examination was done from ۱ cm۲ of facial skin sebum. Somereferences consider the density of more than five mites per cm۲ as a pathogenic criterion. Results : Demodex mite sampling was positive in patients (۸۰%) and controls (۱۲%). The averageof Demodex mite density in patinets with psoriasis was ۲۳.۶۶ Demodex test was positive in ۲۸men (۳۵%) and ۵۲ women (۶۵%) in itching. Conclusion : Demodex mites live inside almost every human’s hair follicles. The mites usuallydon’t cause any problems, but if they multiply too much, they can cause demodicosis. If you haveitchy, bumpy or red skin on your face, you may be infested by high density of Demodex mites
