چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Postbiotics are molecules of functional bioactive or metabolites secretedfrom live probiotics that are produced during the fermentation process of them. Therefore, postbiotics don’t have probiotics adverse clinical effects. Extracellular polysaccharides (EPS)from lactic acid bacteria are an example of postbiotic compounds. Bacterial exopolysaccharidesshow significant antiviral activity by destroying viral particles, reducing virus titers, preventingthe replication of viral DNA and the releasing of virus particles. The SARS-CoV-۲ pandemicthreatens global health and postbiotics can be potential promising strategy for this disease. Theaim of this study was to review the available clinical evidence on the effects of exopolysaccharidefrom probiotic bacteria as a post-biotic in the treatment of covid-۱۹.Methods : Articles related to the subject were searched in PubMed and Sciencedirect databasesand articles that evaluated the effects of postbiotics, especially exopolysaccharides, in theprevention and treatment of covid-۱۹ disease were included in the study. Results : According to the available evidence, biological polysaccharide with long molecularchain (EPS) can be a potential inhibitor of viral infection, especially in the systemic and respiratorysystem. In some studies have been investigated EPS effects of probiotic bacteria as an antiviralagent against some known viral diseases. Exopolysaccharides of Leuconostoc, Pediococcus andStreptococcus have shown a strong therapeutic effect against several types of viruses, includingadenovirus type ۵, rotavirus, gastroenteritis corona virus and influenza virus. However, theantiviral mechanism of EPS has not been sufficiently studied and requires further studies in thisfield. Conclusion : According to postbiotics special characteristics (non-toxic, high stability, resistantto digestive system enzymes), postbiotics have different functional properties, includingantimicrobial, antioxidant and immune system modulating properties. And they can be used in theform of different types of delivery systems (pharmaceutical, food) to achieve the goals ofimproving the health status of the host. However, there is limited evidence to recommend the useof postbiotics for treating and preventing SARS-CoV-۲, but according to researches related toantiviral impacts of postbiotics, they are suggested as candidates for prevention and treatment ofSARS-COV-۲.
