چکیده

Background and Aim : Listeria monocytogenes is an important food pathogen and one of themost common cases of abortion. The uterus of infected women is the source of infection for thefetus during pregnancy or birth. If it is not identified, it will lead to repeated abortion and increaseantibiotic resistance. This study was conducted to determine the frequency of Listeria monocytonsin cases of abortion and check the frequency of pathogenic genes inlA, inlB, prfA, and hlyA.Methods : This cross-sectional-descriptive study was conducted to determine the frequency ofListeria monocytogenes contamination of the placenta in abortion cases. The bacteria were isolatedby enriching the samples at ۴ ° C and cultured in specific enriching environments, and the۱۶srRNA and prs genes of Listeria monocytogenes were confirmed using standard biochemicaltests and polymerase chain reaction molecular test. The presence of inlA, inlB, prfA, and hlyAgenes was investigated by PCR technique. Results : Of the ۵۳ samples of aborted placentas suspected of listeriosis, ۷ (۵.۷۱) samples werefound to be infected with Listeria monocytogenes. The presence of pathogenic genes inlB, hlyA,and prfA was detected in all isolates and inlA with frequency (۷۱.۴۳%).Conclusion : Due to the importance of the pathogenicity of Listeria monocytogenes, prevention, and timely treatment play an important role. Considering the prevalence of ۷۱.۵% of Listeriamonocytogenes in aborted fetuses, it seems that inlB, prfA, hly, and inlA genes play an essentialrole in the pathogenicity of this bacterium. This confirms the importance and necessity ofcontinuous monitoring and the development of a detailed program for the identification of thisbacterium in timely diagnosis and preventive health guidelines.
