چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Leptospirosis is probably one of the most widespread and prevalentzoonotic diseases worldwide. This infectious disease is caused by pathogenic leptospiral serovars(more than ۲۶۰ serovars). Leptospirosis affecting most of small ruminants (goats, sheep) in whichit causes several signs including abortions, stillbirths and mummification. The aim of this studywas to determine the prevalence of leptospirosis in small ruminant by MAT testing in IRANMethods : Sera were collected from ۴۱ abortions cases with clinically suspected leptospirosisattending the department of Microbiology, Razi Vaccine & serum Research Institute, Karaj duringthe period of April ۲۰۱۹ and March ۲۰۲۱. Serlogical survey of antibodies against differentleptospiral serovars was carried out by Microscopic agglutination test (MAT) at dilutions from۱/۵۰ to ۱/۱۲۸۰. The antigens used in MAT were live ۲۰ leptospira serovars. Statistical methodswere performed to determine the significant association of various demographic data using thestatistical software SPSS.Results : A total ۱۴ (۳۴.۱%) out of ۴۱ serum samples were positive by MAT. Antibody titersinclude ۱/۴۰۰ for ۸ (۵۷.۱%), ۱/۸۰۰ for ۴ (۲۸.۵%) , ۱/۱۶۰۰ for ۲ (۱۴.۲%) samples. The mostprevalent leptospira serovars were Grippotyphosa ۴ (۲۸.۵%) Icterohaemorrhagiae ۳ (۲۱.۴%),followed by Sejroe hardjo ۲ (۱۴.۲%) Canicola ۲ (۱۴.۲%) Autmnalis ۱ (۷.۱%), and Pomona۱(۲.۴%).Conclusion : The results showed that certain serovars such as Grippotyphosa andIcterohaemorrhagiae are common in abortions of small ruminants. The results suggested thatleptospira may have important role in abortion in small ruminant. Although large scale serologicalstudies can enhance our understanding of leptospirosis in small ruminants in different part of Iran.
