چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl (Lamiaceae) is a native plant, which is knownas Chay-e-kohi in Persian. In Iranian traditional medicine, it is used as the herbal tea ingastrointestinal disorders, inflammatory diseases, sedative, antispasmodic and ulcers. This projectinvestigated the chemical composition, antioxidant activity and antibacterial activity of Stachyslavandulifolia Vahl. essential oils on human infectious bacteria. Methods : The aerial parts of Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl. were collected from Alborz Province,Iran. The essential oils were extracted using Clevenger apparatus system by Hydro-distillationmethod.The antibacterial effect of essential oils was determined using the minimum inhibitoryconcentration (MIC), and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC) method. Also, free radicalscavenging activity by ۲,۲-diphenyl-۱-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH۰) was examined. Chemicalcomposition was measured using the Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS).Results : The major constituents in Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl. essential oils were alpha & beta- Pinene, Germacrene, alpha & beta - Phellandrene and etc. The essential oils of aerial parts ofStachys lavandulifolia Vahl. exhibited good antibacterial potential against gram positive and gramnegative bacterial strains. Conclusion : The essential oil of Stachys lavandulifolia Vahl. are potential natural antibacterialsto treat human pathogenic bacteria and can be used as alternatives to produce antimicrobial agents.
