چکیده
Background and Aim : Hospital-acquired infections or nosocomial infections (NIs) are relatedwith different toxins or infectious agents that cause infection among patients admitted to thehospital. These infections are likely to spread through hospital boundaries during the patient’shospital Stay. This study aims to provide a detailed review of literary studies to identify theprevalence of nosocomial infections and antibiotic-resistance specifically in Western Asiacountries. Methods : The material is from scientific articles on bacteriology, microbiology, infectiousdiseases, drug resistance as well as searching the valid scientific databases. Results : The findings indicated that nosocomial infections following antibiotic resistance are anemerging problem in Middle Eastern countries, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Most frequently reported NIs in Middle East in our review are bloodstream infections (۵۰%) andsurgical site infections (۵۰%) followed by urinary tract infections. Conclusion : Nosocomial infections following antibiotic resistance are an emerging problem inMiddle Eastern countries, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Escherichia coli andKlebsiella species among gram-negative bacteria, Staphylococcus aureus among gram-positivebacteria and fungal pathogens such as Candida species are most reported pathogens involved innosocomial infections, and resistance to penicillin, cephalosporin, carbapenem andfluoroquinolone antibiotics were significantly reported. However, most studies showed minimumresistance of pathogens against the drug colistin. Hence, further studies are required in Middle Eastto further examine and improve sensitivity of colistin in NIs.کلیدواژه ها
