چکیده مقاله:

Background and Aim : Objectives: Dacryocystitis is one of the most common eye diseases dueto inflammation of the lacrimal sac. It can be of two types: acute and chronic forms. The aim ofthis study is identification of common bacteria causing nasolacrimal duct infection anddetermination of their antimicrobial susceptibility profiles in children with congenital nasolacrimalduct obstruction. Methods : Method: This cross-sectional and analytical study was done in the ophthalmologydepartment of Isfahan University of Medical Sciences (Iran) from January to February ۲۰۲۰.Identification of dacryocystitis specimens was done using phenotypic and genotypic methods.Antibiotic susceptibility tests performed by Disc diffusion method with MAST.Results : Results: All of ۱۰ isolates from culture of specimens belonged to gram positive cocci.Staphylococcus saprophyticus, Staphylococcus hominis and Streptococcus pneumoniae (n=۱,۱.۶%). Totally, highest resistance was found against erythromycin and tetracycline whilevancomycin, chloramphenicol, ciprofloxacin and imipenem showed the highest susceptibility. Themost sensitive antibiotics are vancomycin, chloramphenicol and, ciprofloxacin against the mostcommon microorganisms were isolated. Conclusion : Conclusion: The common bacteria isolated from acute dacryocystitis in our regionare Staphylococcus. Ciprofloxacin, vancomycin and chloramphenicol are the most effectiveantibiotics against all of the isolated microorganisms. These 'regional' findings have importantpublic health implications for the treatment and prevention of dacryocystitis in this region of Iran.
