چکیده
Background and Aim : Klebsiella pneumoniae is an opportunistic, gram-negative, rod-shapedbacterium that belongs to the Enterobacteriaceae family. The spread of antibiotic resistanceendangers the effectiveness of treatment and increases health care costs. Also, antibiotic resistanceleads to the death of hundreds of thousands of people every year. Horizontal gene transfer playsan important role in the transfer of antibiotic resistance genes from one species to another. Thisstudy was conducted with the aim of determining the pattern of antibiotic resistance andinvestigating the frequency of blaIMI gene in Klebsiella pneumoniae isolated from patients inIsfahan hospitals. Methods : This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on Klebsiella pneumoniae clinicalisolates collected from hospitalized patients from Isfahan hospitals during one year. The strainswere identified by biochemical tests. Antibiotic susceptibility was evaluated by disc diffusionmethod according to CLSI ۲۰۲۱ standard protocols for antibiotics ceftriaxone, gentamicin, cefotaxime, ciprofloxacin, amikacin, imipenem, ertapenem, meropenem and doripenem. Also, thepresence of blaIMI gene was investigated using PCR molecular method. Results : From ۵۰ clinical strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae the most and the least antibioticresistance is related to the ceftriaxone (۸۶%) and amikacin (۳۸%), respectively. Based on PCRresults, blaIMI gene was not observed in any of the strains. Conclusion : The results of the present study showed that due to the increase in the resistance ofthe strains to ceftriaxone, the treatment of infections causing by this isolates are major problem infuture. Also, other mechanisms such as efflux pumps and mutations in purines play a significantrole in creating drug resistance. Therefore, it is necessary to recognize the mechanisms ofresistance and prescribe appropriate antibiotics.
