چکیده
Backgrounds: Growing body of evidence showed that epigenetic modifications, includingDNA methylation might be associated with lipid profile. Inconsistent results exist on theassociation of DNA methylation and serum triglycerides (TG) levels. This review aims toprovide a summary of the literature evaluating the relation between the methylation of specificcytosine-phosphate-guanine (CpG) sites and serum TG levels.Materials and Methods: A systematic literature search was conducted in Medline database(PubMed), Scopus, and Cochrane library up to September ۲۰۲۰. All observational studies (crosssectional, case–control, and cohort) on adult populations were included. Studies that assessed theeffect of DNA methylation of different CpG sites of ABCG۱, CPT۱A, and SREBF۱ genes onserum TG levels were selected. The STROBE checklist was used to assess the quality ofincluded articles. Results: Overall, ten studies were included in the quantitative synthesis. DNA methylation ofABCG۱ gene had significant positive association with TG levels (β = ۰.۰۴۵; ۹۵% CI = ۰.۰۳۸-۰.۰۵۲, P heterogeneity < ۰.۰۰۱). There was significant inverse association between DNAmethylation of CPT۱A gene and serum TG levels (β = -۰.۰۲۶, ۹۵% CI = -۰.۰۳۱, -۰.۰۲۱, Pheterogeneity < ۰.۰۰۱). DNA methylation of SREBF۱ gene was positively and significantlyassociated with serum TG levels (β = ۰.۰۳۱; ۹۵% CI =۰.۰۲۳-۰.۰۳۹, P heterogeneity < ۰.۰۰۱).Conclusion: DNA methylation of ABCG۱ and SREBF۱ genes has positive association withserum TG level, whereas this association is opposite for CPT۱A gene. DNA Methylation ofcg۰۶۵۰۰۱۶۱ and cg۲۷۲۴۳۶۸۵ at ABCG۱, cg۰۰۵۷۴۹۵۸ and cg۱۷۰۵۸۴۷۵ at CPT۱A andcg۱۱۰۲۴۶۸۲ at SREBF۱ affect serum TG levels more than other sites.
