In this paper, forced vibration analysis of rectangular thin functionally graded (FG) plates is investigated and a semi analytical solution is presented. Various combinations of simply supported and clamped boundary conditions are considered. The material properties such as Young’s modulus, Poisson’s ratio and density change continuously through the thickness of the plate, which can vary according to power law, exponentially or any other formulations in this direction.Based on the classical plate theory, the governing equation is obtained in term of lateral displacement, which is a fourth order partial differential equation (PDE). Application of the Extended Kantorovich Method (EKM) reduces the governing PDE to a dual set of coupled ordinary differential equations. These sets of equations are then solved analytically, in an iterative manner until convergence was achieved. Results of this study reveal the fast rate of convergence of the EKM. Usually two or three iterations are enoughto obtained results with desired accuracy. Some new results for the forced vibration response of the FG plates such as the effects of excitation frequency, boundary conditions, material, and geometrical parameters are presented for future references.
