Vascular grafts have been routinely used in clinics to treat cardiovascularillnesses such as aneurysms, atherosclerosis, and myocardial infarction. Genetherapy has emerged as a promising approach for improving theendothelialization of artificial vascular grafts in recent years. Gene transfectionis a useful method for promoting the proliferation, motility, andvascularization of ECs by transferring proangiogenic genes, includingVEGF۱۶۵ and ZNF۵۸۰. VEGF, endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS), andmatrix metalloproteinase-۲ are all regulated by the ZNF۵۸۰ gene (a C۲H۲ zincfinger transcription factor gene) (MMP-۲). The proangiogenic functions ofECs are aided by their expression. Endothelialization and angiogenesis areaided by ZNF۵۸۰ gene transfection. This improved design creates anintelligent link between the biomaterial surface and gene delivery, based on anawareness of the scientific issues that exist between the biomaterial surfaceand the bio-interface of cells. application of cardiovascular gene therapy forpromoting a functional endothelium, smooth muscle cell growth inhibition, therapeutic angiogenesis, tissue-engineered vascular conduits, and discussingthe current status of various applicable clinical trials. This research could pavethe door for a new method of designing and fabricating vascular grafts.
