Complete prevalence of bladder cancer in Kerman province in southeast Iran, up to the end of ۲۰۱۷

چکیده

Background and Objective: bladder cancer affects large parts of communities in world and in some parts of Iran including Kerman province. We decided to assess the prevalence of bladder cancer over three-, five-, ten-, and twenty-year periods up to the end of ۲۰۱۷ using the complete prevalence method in Kerman Province.Materials and Methods: We used data on ۱۲۷۲ patients with bladder cancer registered in the Kerman population based cancer registry from ۲۰۱۴ to ۲۰۱۷. There were two parts of data including observed and unobserved to calculating the complete prevalence. The observed part included those cases, whose information was recorded by the cancer registry, and the unobserved part included cases before the registry department was established; the latter were estimated using modeling to be included in the prevalence calculation. The complete prevalence of three-, five-, ten-, and twenty-year of bladder cancer up to the end of ۲۰۱۷ was calculated using the rprev package in R software version ۴.۰.۳.Results: The overall ۳-year, ۵-year, ۱۰-year and ۲۰-year prevalence of bladder cancer at the end of ۲۰۱۷ was ۲۶.۵۴, ۴۳.۴۶, ۸۰.۳ and ۱۴۲.۳۶ per ۱۰۰,۰۰۰, respectively. The prevalence estimated to be the lowest among people aged less than ۴۵ years and the highest among those who were ۶۱ years and older. The prevalence was significantly higher among men than women.Conclusion: The prevalence of bladder cancer in Kerman province was high compared to the national average and with increasing age, prevalence also increased directly and it was significantly higher in men than women.
