چکیده

Osteoarthritis is the single most common cause of disability in older adults. Knee osteoarthritis (KO) is a common joint disorder among the people. Knee flexion (KF) is powerful movement in walking and running that occur in the sagittal plane. Hamstring muscles, contributing to KF consists of the biceps femoris, and semimembranosus, and semitendinosus. The purpose of this study was to comparison and evaluation Hamstring Muscle EMG Activities during KF in the Women with and without KO. The women with KO (n=۱۶) and without KO (n=۱۳) participated in this study had an average age of ۶۱ / ۲ ± ۲/۳ years, the height of ۱۵۸ / ۱ ± ۱/۸ cm and weight ۶۸ / ۴ ± ۸/۲ kg. EMG signals were measured from a ۱۶ channel EMG system (sampling rate of ۱۰۰۰ Hz). To detect changes in muscle activation during the knee flexion, bipolar surface electrodes (۱-cm-diameter) were applied to the hamstring muscles only on the right lower limb. The inter-tip distance of electrodes was ۵ mm. Root-mean-square (RMS) values were calculated from each EMG data. For normalizing the data, maximum voluntary contraction (MVC) of RMS in the muscle during knee flexion was divided on the isometric contraction maximum of the muscle of RMS. To determine the participation ratio in the hamstring muscles, normalized signals in the muscles was divided on the normalized signals sum of three muscles. MANOVA statistical method (p< ۰/۰۵) used for data analysis. Statistical analysis showed a significant increase in the EMG of the semitendinosus and significant decrease in the EMG of the semimembranosus in with KO group. The results showed that the participation ratio of biceps femoris muscle for knee flexion in both with KO and without KO groups in all subjects is more than the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles. The most participation ratio was observed in the biceps femoris muscle in women with KO, whereas the semitendinosus and semimembranosus muscles were observed, consequently. Also, the most participation ratio was observed in the biceps femoris muscle in women without KO, whereas the semimembranosus and semitendinosus muscles were observed, consequently.
