Multi-product pipeline scheduling models: A literature review and research agenda

Multi-product pipelines are more desirable than other methods of transportation of oil products, such as trucks or trains, due to their economic advantage, higher safety, and simpler design. Therefore, the optimal scheduling plan of injecting the products to the pipelines is very important.In this paper, a qualitative method will be used. First, we will get acquainted with the pipeline and scheduling problem in general, then we will review the literature related to the multiproduct pipelines scheduling models based on the six important criteria identified for pipeline scheduling models include time representation, batch or product-centric approach, objective function, certainty, pipeline topology, solution algorithm. At the end, the most important articles in this field were categorized and summarized. Also, suggestions for future research are provided.
