چکیده مقاله:

Globally, the population has been increasing at an alarming rate and agriculture has to produce morefood and fiber for this increasing population. Several biotic and abiotic factors affect crop productionnegatively but weeds are considered as the most important biotic constraint to agriculture production.Herbicide use has made agriculture simple and economical. However, there is the risk of evolutionof resistance, shifts in weed flora, off-site movement of herbicides, and limited new modes of actionproducts. Therefore, the challenge for weed scientists is to develop innovative, economical, and sustainableintegrated weed management (IWM) systems that can be integrated into existing and futurecropping systems to bring a more diverse approach to weed management. Until recently, most effortshave been on evaluating the effect of herbicides only. Efforts should focus on preserving herbicides’life so that our future generations can use them. Interest should be developed in the use of non-chemicalmethods to improve weed management. This presentation will discuss some challenges and opportunitiesfor education and research in weed science.
