چکیده مقاله:

Introduction and Aims: Approximately fifty percent of head and neck region malignant tumors are located in the oral cavity. Nearly, oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) accounts for ۹۰% of the oral cancers. Globally, OSCC is the sixth most common cancer. The use of dental implants has recently been increased. The aim of present study was to review the literature of cases that associate dental implants with the formation or development of oral cancer.Materials and Methods: At present study, we carried out a systematic review of the literature published in PubMed, using the terms: Medical Subject Heading (Mesh) “Dental Implants” and “Oral Cancer”, of literature published on the association between oral cancer and implants between the years ۲۰۰۹ and ۲۰۱۹. We used Boleean Operator “AND”, in order to search for articles on the association. Results: We found ۲۳ articles published between mentioned years, of those, ۱۴ articles were excluded because they did not meet the coverage criteria and as not being directly related to the subject. Of the ۹ cases reported, some studies showed that dental implants are associated with OSCC. Although, others showed that dental implants are not associated with OSCC.Conclusion: Based on the findings, an obvious relationship cannot be established between the implants and the development of OSCC. Although it can be conferred that there is a probability that dental implants may have an inflammatory role which contributes to the development of OSCC. The findings of the present review showed that further meta-analysis studies is needed to carry out.
