Increasing the Energy Efficiency in the Design of an Office Building in Tehran by Using Renewable Energy Sources

Nowadays the optimization of fuel consumption by the replacement of renewable resources is the most important solution. Primary energy consumption of Iran has increased around ۵۰% from ۲۰۰۴ till now and ۴۰% of energy consumption is related to buildings. Therefore, it is necessary to develop practical and simple methods and cost-effective strategies in order to apply in the design stage by architects for reducing the lateral buildings’ need for various types of energy sources. The impact of changes in architectural design parameters such as plan geometry, architectural form, type of windows, awnings, greenhouses and insulations on energy consumption can be evaluated. Moreover, renewable energy systems can also be used for energy generation. The present article is the outcome of participating in architectural design competition titled "Near Zero Energy-efficient office buildings" held in Tehran on December ۲۰۱۷. The simulations have been carried out with and without passive solutions. The results of the simulations show that the use of greenhouse and solar chimney as passive methods can be effective in reducing the energy consumption around ۸%. Also, the use of solar water heating systems can provide more than ۵۰% hot water consumed as an active method.
