Introduction and goal: Vancomycin-resistant enterococci, majorly Enterococcus faecium, have recently emerged as multidrug-resistant hospital bacteria worldwide. Therefore, enterococcal infections have become more difficult to treat due to these increased multidrug resistance. Studying bacterial genes and investigating their changes over the time can help better understand antibiotic resistance develop of the bacteria. Materials and Methods: In this study, E. faecium EntfacYE strain isolated from human biological samples was assessed. After phenotypic, biochemical and molecular verifications of the bacterial isolate, the bacterial genome was extracted and subjected to complete genomic sequencing. Results: In total, EntfacYE genome subsystems included ۲۳ various categories with ۴۶ genes belonging to antimicrobial resistance genes. Furthermore, ۳۱ antibiotic resistance genes were included in specific subsystems, while ۱۵ genes lacked specific subsystems. Cadmium, cobalt, copper, zinc and mercury resistance genes were identified in the EntfacYE genome and finally compared with the results of a previous similar study.Discussion and Conclusion: In general, sequencing and study of resistance genes in bacteria can be effective in better understanding resistance patterns and lead to finding appropriate ways to deal with the spread of antibiotic resistance in bacteria.
