Optimization of energy consumption in buildings is one of the factors affecting the reduction of energy consumption, which is of great importance in the contemporary construction industry. The most important part of most buildings that is designed to reduce energy consumption is the outer shell of the building. The amount of energy lost from the building shell and energy consumption to compensate for it, has irreparable damage to the annual energy consumption and the environment. Therefore, in this article, with the aim of optimizing energy consumption in the building, an attempt has been made to study the role of the outer shell in reducing energy consumption and to provide optimal solutions based on Article ۱۹ of the National Building Regulations of Iran. For this purpose, a descriptive research method has been used, which has been studied by library studies, the dimensions of the subject. The results show that the building shell plays an essential role in controlling environmental conditions as the main mediator between outdoor and indoor space; And the amount of energy savings through the building shell depends on several factors such as material, openings, thermal mass, thermal insulation, etc. Therefore, the design of the building should be as compatible with the climate as possible, so that the optimal natural conditions are used to the maximum and the building is protected against adverse climatic conditions to minimize the amount of energy required to provide heating and cooling.
