چکیده مقاله:

One of the major challenges in the field of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine is providing sufficient oxygen supply to meet the demand of cells in engineered tissues. There have been several attempts to overcome this hurdle. One of the effective methods to provide oxygen is utilizing oxygen releasing biomaterials (ORBs) such as solid and liquid peroxides. These biomaterials are capable of oxygen generation in a controlled and prolonged manner. In this study, oxygen releasing PCL-CaO۲ microparticles were fabricated through electrospraying method. In this regard, three samples with ۱ Wt. %, ۲ Wt % and ۴ Wt. % calcium peroxide were produced and characterized. The morphology of microparticles was investigated using a Field emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FE-SEM). Additionally, chemical composition and present functional groups in the microparticles were investigated using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR). Furthermore, encapsulation efficiency of calcium peroxide in electrosprayed microparticles was measured to quantify the amount of calcium peroxide in PCL. Our results demonstrated that the morphology of microparticles was spherical and the average particle size was increased with higher amounts of calcium peroxide concentration. In addition, FTIR results confirmed the chemical composition aforementioned materials in microparticles. Moreover, the encapsulation efficiency of calcium peroxide increased with higher amounts of this material in the primary electrospraying solutions.
