چکیده

Urbanization all around the world creates many problems in terms of environmental,social, health, and economic. There is a worldwide agreement on the decline and elimination of the existing issues that are based on wrong management, planning, and designing of urban settlements. In this regard, the urban design concept is emerged as a special field and is defined as the art of building urban settlements to provide various management and design strategies for solving problems of cities. Moreover, inside the urban design field paying notable attention to the concept of sustainability is began ۵decades ago. At the contemporary time, one of the most fundamental necessities of communities is developing the level of sustainability in all aspects of human activities. The main aim of this study is to clarify the role of the Strategic Planning Process as one of the management approaches for considering the existing situations to plan for helping cities to develop their priorities and well support to reach the necessity of their community at the present time and future. The methodology of this research is an integrative literature review based on published documents and articles. As a result, the investigation would express understanding the active role of the strategic planning process as a management method towards applying sustainability concepts in urban design and planning.
