Silica -based organ ic – inorga nic hybrids a re attractive composite materials since they co mbine in a s ingle solid both the properties of a rigid thr ee-dimensio nal silica network with the partic ular chemical reactivity of the organic component(s). In particular, the desi gn of nanoporous silica -based adsorbents for the determina tion of toxic heavy-meta l ions in aqueous soluti ons is a sub ect that has been intens ively invest igated [۱]. For this purpose, a vari ety of organic functional groups can be grafted or incorporated onto t he surface of nano struc tured channels using ligand-functio nalized organosilanes [۲].This p aper descri bes the construction of a selective sensor, a carbon paste el ectrode modified with silica-based organic-inorganic hy brid materi als containing thiol groups covalently attached to the s olid framework via a alkyl chain, its properties and its a pplication to the determ ination of metal ions in waste water samples.
