چکیده

Titanium dioxide (TiO۲) h as been investigated by many researcher because of their applications in m any fields of chemical engineering,materials engineeri ng,dye-sens etized cells,sensors and in the paint industry. TiO۲ exists in three diff erent crystalline structu re are stable : rutile,anatase and brookite [۱]. Activated carbon (AC) is widely used as a support in gas a nd water remediation because of its good adsorption,an d supported TiO۲ exhi bits a synerg ism that ha s marked eff ects on the kinetics of d isappearance of pollutants,each pollutant being more rapidly photodegraded. Addi ng activated carbon to T iO۲ can po ssibly increa se its photo catalytic efficiency beca use of the large surface area of the whole com posite catalyst,in which activated c arbon can ac t as an effic ient adsorption trap to the organic pollutant,which is then more efficiently transfe rred to TiO۲ surface,w here it is im mediately photocatalytically degra ded [۲,۳].In this work,activated carbon was selected as an adsorptive supp ort a transparent TiO۲ nano-sol wa s synthesiz ed by hydrol ysis titaniu m-n-butoxide. Some cha racterizatio n techniques via,-X-ray diffraction analysis (X RD) and S canning ele ctron micr oscopy (SE M) were used to study the induced changes on the properties of TiO۲-activated carbon (TiO۲/AC) nanocomposites.
