Photoc hromism can be define d as a reversible transfo rmation of a chemical s pecies induced by electromagnetic radiation between two state s with light absorptions in spectral regions. Colour changes in photochro mic compounds typically are the result of the shift of optical absorption due to chang es in molecular structure or conformation. These photochro mic molecu les can play a key ro le in materials for ph otonic switches, memories, sensors or actuators and this wide range of application s involve large-size de vices (e.g., sunglasses) as well as miniaturized one s (e.g., me ory media). A combina tion of met al-ion recognition moieties with photochromic molecules has been r eported to afford met al-ion responsiv e photochr omic molecules [۱]. The most widely adopted functional groups that form metal-ion complexes are cro wn ethers, and the photochromi c chromop hores. Dif ferent coordination compou nds of the monoanionic Dithizonate (HDz-) sp ecies in tetra hedral or sq uare-planar geometries [M (HDz)۲, M = Zn, Cd, Hg, Pt, etc.] have been synthesized and characte rized and it ha s been sugg ested that the photochromic reaction involves a trans–cis iso merization about the C=N bond and an N to N hyd rogen trans fer.The c ase study of [M(HDz)۲ , M = Zn, Cd, Hg, Pd , Pb] in dif ferent solvents and radiation condition s was performing.
