چکیده مقاله:

Background and aims: Measurement of the cardiorespiratory fitness (CRF) (VO۲peak) is not possible in every clinical and exercise settingdue to complexity, cost, and time required. Submaximal field exercise test in an alternative method. Among exercise tests, the ۶-minutewalk test (۶MWT) measures the maximal distance which a person can walk in ۶ minutes. The purpose of the present study was to developand cross-validate the VO۲peak prediction equation based on the ۶MWT in boys. Methods: VO۲peak was measured by Bruce treadmill protocol with gas analysis in ۱۵۷ healthy boys (۱۳-۱۷ years old). The ۶MWT andanthropometric variables were measured according to standard methods. Data were analyzed using Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, Pearsoncorrelation, and multiple regression analysis. Results: It was found that VO۲peak of the boys had a significant correlation with ۶MWT and anthropometric variables (r=۰.۳۱۸-۰.۸۵۳).VO۲peak of the adolescent boys could be predicted by the distance walked in ۶ minutes and body mass index (BMI) (R۲ = ۰.۸۲۵, SEE =۲.۸۱ mL/kg/min, P < ۰.۰۰۱). When the new VO۲peak prediction equation was applied for the subjects of this study, predicted VO۲peak hada high correlation with measured VO۲peak (r = ۰.۹۰۸, P < ۰.۰۰۱).Conclusion: The ۶MWT and proposed native VO۲peak prediction equation could be used as a simple and safe tool for measurement of theCRF in the boys. It seems that physicians, exercise and fitness coaches, and physiotherapists could be able to evaluate the effect of medicaland exercise prescriptions on the CRF of the boys via performing the ۶MWT. This claim needs future studies.
